We salute the many volunteers who run Noah's Ark, the only homeless shelter in the Lower Valley, and encourage other individuals and groups to give them a call and see how you can help them serve the homeless population in Wapato. We learned about the challenges of the homeless in Wapato, the history of their organization, their ongoing and current needs. Pat Reynolds and Danielle Surkatty delivered the bags and enjoyed the tour given by board member Jeff and Director Mike Zink. Pictured at left is Debbie Phillips, Director of the Women's New Life Program.įor our February "Zonta Shelters Women" project, the members of Zonta donated toiletries, towels, and other requested items to put together a bag for each of the 8 women in the women's shelter at Noah's Ark in Wapato. In celebration of Mother's Day our "Zonta Shelters Women" project put together care bags for the women who are participating in the year long Women's New Life Program at the Yakima Union Gospel Mission. We putt together care bags for youth who receive services at Rod's House Homeless Youth Drop In Center of Yakima. Thanks to the generous donations of Zonta members we were able to fill a Honda Fit! We salute the wonderful staff and volunteers at the Lower Valley Crisis and Support Services for the wonderful care they give to women in need in the Lower Valley.
LVCSS provides shelter for domestic violence victims in Lower Valley communities from Prosser to Wapato.ĭonated items included women's clothing, hats/gloves, toiletries & feminine products, laundry soap, cleaning products, diapers, food staples and gift cards for each family member. Zonta members donated pantry items for our 2015 Christmas Project to the Lower Valley Crisis and Support Services in support of " Zonta Shelters Women". In February, Zonta Members donated items to help stock the pantry at the Yakima YWCA, under our ongoing "Zonta Shelters Women" emphasis. Our 2016 Christmas Project gave a $400 pre-paid store card to Triumph Treatment to be used to purchase underwear for the women when they enter the residential program. Zonta members donated underwear, socks and toiletries for the women living in the Noah's Ark Shelter in Wapato. Members also donated additional toiletry supplies along with the blankets, towels and flatware. In February 2018, members contributed to individual Valentine's toiletry bags for each of the women staying at the Noah's Ark Shelter in Wapato.

Families are required to contribute 250 hours of sweat equity in exchange for a $2,500 credit at closing. Individual Self-Help Program – working with eligible very low- to moderate income families, CCHS provides an opportunity for families to achieve with dream of homeownership with little money down. CCHS provides the technical assistance necessary for families to successfully complete their homes. Individuals and families must meet the USDA program qualifications and participate in a build group of 6- 10 families who build each other’s homes while contributing 65% of the labor component on the homes. Mutual Self-Help Program– CCHS has partnered with USDA RD’s Mutual Self-Help Program to provide opportunities for very low- and low-income families to achieve their dream of homeownership. Qualified families invest “sweat equity” during the construction process, which allows them to purchase a home with no down payment. These services include establishing/repairing credit, budgeting, mortgage education, and home maintenance. We help low- to moderate- income families learn skills to become successful homeowners. This “self-help” homeownership program offers first-time buyers the chance to achieve their dream of homeownership.
